Animated Movie Posters in Posterlite View? - hansolo77 - 21/07/2016

Are there plans to have the animated movie posters (where available) show in the other layout views?  I like using Posterlite because it blocks the least amount of background.

Also, I saw them one time after I installed the MQ 7 skin, but haven't seen them since.  Aren't they visable in the Poster view?  If not, what view was it?

Thanks!

Work fine in posters views, checked here, but don´t have support - Wall 3D, Showcase, Coverflow, all others work ok.

Yeah I have that checked... wonder why it's not working anymore for me.  I have the fanart one checked as well, and it works on some of my movies.  They probably just don't all have them yet.  But the posters used to work for me when I first installed the skin.  I'll try switching off and back on or something and see if that fixes it.
OK, one movie I know definitely worked was Equalizer.  I tried to bring up the Context Menu to edit the animated art.  It showed there was a .gif file, but when I selected it to use it popped up an error about Youtube...

Does Kodi and/or the skin use Youtube to search for an animated poster if one doesn't exist locally?  If so, there's probable an error somewhere in the programming.  Will the skin/Kodi work if there IS a local file?  If so too, maybe I'll just go that route and try to find them to add.  Is there an addon that will scan your library and autmatically download these for me?
I did a lot more experimenting today.  One of the nice things about having a day off.  :)

Youtube continues to pop up the error on screen EVERY TIME I go in to try and edit the Animated Fanart.  BUT... I can edit the fanart, and pick the poster I want to use.  I'm assuming these are stored locally on my Pi is how it's able to find them.  I'm not sure how well it would work stored remotely in say each movie's /fanart folder on my server (SMB).

On the negative side though, I've had to disable it.  Seems it was a huge system resource hog once I had about 10 of them turned on through manually editing.  Once I hit that threshold, Kodi would crash and restart everytime I tried to open up the MOVIES home menu.  I couldn't get anywhere.  It would act like it's trying to load the information into a buffer/cache or something before rendering my list on screen.  Once it was full and couldn't run anymore it crashed.  I had this happen before when I tried to run Jarvis (not using this skin, just Jarvis and Aeon 6).  That's why I ultimately decided to just skip upgrading to Jarvis, thinking it was Kodi and the flaky beta version of the OpenELEC OS.  But seeing it now, with a fully officially released version of LibreELEC too, and Jarvis 16.1, makes me realize it's probably just a limitation of the capabilities of the Pi.  Especially since a lot of other people don't have any issues (most likely running on a Windows PC or other device like Android).  Perhaps in some future version of my setup I'll have better luck.

It's neat to see, but not worth all the crashing it involved.

Posters animated are collected auto by addon Skin Helper, and arts go to the thumbnails/animatedgifs folder.

Source images: http://consiliumb.com/animatedgifs/

The database contains 457 animated posters and 571 animated backgrounds of 585 different movies.

Movies details in json here: http://consiliumb.com/animatedgifs/movies.json

There is no website which displays them. The database is primarily used by apps and the Skin Helper Service.

Skin Helper only checks once at startup for new posters / backgrounds and should download any new posts are added. It does this for all films in your library that has a correct IMDB to find the artwork.

So it should show up automatically it Skin helper matches the film and downloads the artwork.

Question. I habv new installed Kodi 17.1 and actually mq7 but its not downloading animated posters. When i load manual everything works but its not auto loading. I've made "automatic ddownload artwork" but nothing happens. Idea? Dont want to load on 100 movies manually.

@thereverend, art animated is not collected with artwork downloader, it´s came via skin helper script. Don´t need any step, need time for script get arts and appear, it´s auto, don´t need any user step.

Nehme Mediaelch. Hat eigentlich immer geklappt. Ich lade die cover dann manuell nach mit select animated cover. Dann gehts.

For animated poster need to have personal api key for tmdb.Key from scrpt.helper-module.artist is novalid anymore.script use imdb number from tmdb.py for finding animated poster...you dont have own api and this service broken for you.

Please write on english...if you want help...german isnt language for this forum.

RE: Animated Movie Posters in Posterlite View? - thereverend - 26/05/2017

since when i need a key? this is a feature working for everyone, even without key. my movies are clearly scraped to the database and the imdb id´s are in the nfo. it´s working perfectly when i´m loading it manually. i have 3 clients useing the same windows, same kodi, same skin, its really annoying loading it in every device. i´m useing an external mysql since years, and the feature worked perfectly a few weeks ago. but not now.

and i´ve started in english, clark interrupted.

setting up a new system with one movie, and he has loaded the animated poster in a few seconds. so no need for an tmdb api.... the problems is somewhere else....
